DEPARTMENT.
Hong Kong Evacuees.
In Syers' letter S.44663 of
3rd January 1941, Treasury agreed to
the charge to United Kingdom funds
(Colonial Office Vote of Credit) of the
expenditure incurred on the evacuation
of civilians from Hong Kong to Australia.
The Foreign Office forwarded to us a
copy of a statement of account of the
expenses incurred by the Consul General
at Manila in this connection amounting
to £32,068. 14. 9) The original statement
and all relevant supporting documents
(with the exception referred to below)
are presumed to have been lost in transit
to this country, although copies were
understood to have been supplied to the
naval, military and civil authorities in
Hong Kong.

which are converted at about 8 pesos
